Wilco!
For those of you who haven't checked out any of the "Tiny Desk" concerts put on by NPR, you should right now. They are amazing and intimate and provide a surprisingly great acoustic setting for the bands/artists that have performed. Here is one of my favorite bands performing some of their songs off their new album "Whole Love". The album as a whole (punny) is not their best work - anything compared to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot will cause this.
Anyone else surprised about how old and worn Tweedy looks? Enjoy!

Bill Callahan
No, not the football coach. This Bill Callahan is the musician who was with the kind of hot/kind of not that hot musician Cat Power for a while. They might have been married? Anyways.. his last album came out in 2011 and is called Apocalypse. Listen to two of his songs here, one as a solo artist and one with the band Smog. Yeah buddy!

Foster the People - Torches
The song "Pumped Up Kicks" is like a town bicycle these days. But surprisingly, there's some good music on the other 9 tracks on this 'bum. Give it a listen sometime and let the loin-tingling ensue.

'Dese guys can Jam
So some pretty Lady showed this song to me.
They're from Denver. I hear Denver is not opposed to "doing pot". Good for you R E A L M A G I C. And, I know you guys get a lot of shit for the spaces in between the letters of your band's name, but let's face it, you totally deserve it. Just spell it normally. Purposefully incorrectly punctuating your band name just to be "off beat" isn't off beat simply because of your intent. Keep the music the same, but seriously, just close the gaps. It's annoying.

Nostalgia
Today's nostalgia pick is from our homegirl Rilo Kiley. Despite Rilo Kiley actually being an indie band from LA, I like to pretend it's just an individual hot chick. But I digress...
From The Execution of All Things is the track "A Better Son/Daughter", which is about bipolar disorder. Brings us back to senior year again, am I right? Feel free to belt it out when she let's dat beat drop.

Nostalgia
Born Ruffians came out with Red, Yellow, and Blue in 2008, and one of our favorite songs off the album is "Badonkadonkey". They juxtapose a goofy, almost overly simplistic sound with lyrics that are a bit on the darker side, which creates the option of listening to it just for fun. Unfortunately their second album, Say It, was produced by someone else, the producer for Modest Mouse I believe. It's more polished, and the boyish garage-band sound is completely absent, which let's be honest, sucks.
More importantly, this song is filled with nostalgia for anyone who has gotten sick and tired of their girlfriend. Senior year, anyone? But seriously how does Luke Lalonde have such insights into all our high school experiences? ----
"And if you get squished I'll find another you,
And if you get squashed I'll find another you,
It won't be hard to find another one like you,
Another you, another you"

J'adore Justice
You see the †, and you think nothing has changed. But the French electronic duo has reinvented themselves in their 2011 'bum Audio, Video, Disco. Some bitches have been clamoring, asking why they are trying to fix something that's not broken. Personally, I love it. Here's my favorite track called "Parade".

Real Estate - "It's Real"
The New Jersey indie rock/dream-pop band released a new album entitled Days on September 27th. The album has garnered just as must positive feedback as their first self-titled 'bum. Here's the first single off of Days, which uniquely enough, is called "It's Real".
Look for a little more refined sound on this album, but the same unique guitar and consistency amongst tracks that makes Real Estate great.
